The SV04 is one of the few accessible true IDEX (Independent Dual EXtruder) machines: two complete heads on independent X carriages. Unlike the shared-toolhead "dual nozzle" (like the Bambu H2D), its two heads move separately — which unlocks modes nothing else does at this price.
The SV04 fills the IDEX slot in our multi-tool landscape: dual-material with no cross-purging, at bed-slinger prices. Not to be confused with the shared-toolhead dual nozzle of the H2D/X2D.
Sovol is now taking the idea much further with the announced M1D, which adds a 6-head toolchanger to the second IDEX carriage — but the SV04 is the one you can buy today.

IDEX: duplication & mirror
The SV04's real appeal:
- Dual-material / dual-color: each head has its own nozzle → no cross-purging, clean soluble supports.
- Duplication mode: both heads print the same part at once → doubled output.
- Mirror mode: a part and its mirror image in parallel (handy for left/right pairs).
- Independent nozzles: you can combine two diameters or two different materials.

Strengths
- Affordable true IDEX: duplication/mirror and dual-material at bed-slinger prices.

- Clean soluble supports: ideal for complex geometries.
- Dual direct drive: handles PETG and flexibles on each head.
Limits
- IDEX calibration: aligning the two nozzles (offsets) takes some care — the price of flexibility.
- No chamber: open → PLA/PETG; ABS/ASA warps.
- Reduced volume in dual-material: normal on IDEX (the 2nd head eats into the width).
- Slower than recent CoreXY machines (SV08): the SV04 is about IDEX, not raw speed.
Who's it for?
