The X2D replaced the X1 Carbon in Bambu's consumer lineup (April 2026). Rather than extend the high-end single-nozzle formula, Bambu pivoted the X series toward multi-material: the X2D carries a shared-toolhead dual nozzle, keeps the lidar and the heated chamber, and lands at a price below the X1C's launch.

The shared dual nozzle

Like the H2D, the X2D houses two nozzles on one toolhead (mechanical switching) — it isn't an IDEX with independent carriages. But here the roles are asymmetric:

  • Left nozzle — direct drive, fast: the "main" nozzle, comfortable with TPU and detail.
  • Right nozzle — Bowden, slower: meant for support material (clean removal) or a second color.

The appeal: dedicated-material supports that detach cleanly, and a second material, without the heavy purging of a multi-color single nozzle. For true multicolor (4+ shades), though, you're back to the AMS and its waste.

The X1 Carbon legacy

The X1 Carbon built Bambu's reputation: enclosed 256 mm CoreXY, lidar, AI monitoring, hardened-steel nozzle, impeccable quality. It was pulled from the consumer lineup in April 2026, but remains extremely common and perfectly viable — fully supported by Bambu Studio and the AMS. A used X1C at the right price is still a great buy if the X2D's multi-material doesn't interest you.

Take the X2D for the dual nozzle (clean supports, 2nd material) and the price. Keep or buy a used X1C if you want proven high-end single-nozzle reliability for less.

Limits

  • Slow right nozzle: Bowden and ~200 mm/s, it's mainly for support, not fast two-color production.
  • Limited right nozzle: Bowden and slow, mainly for support — less versatile than the H2D's two direct-drive nozzles for heavy dual-material.
  • Multicolor waste (4+): beyond the model/support duo via the AMS, purging returns.
  • Closed ecosystem: like the rest of the Bambu range.
